Rooted in a transitional aesthetic, the design balances the familiar with the refined— where cherished heirloom pieces meet contemporary sensibilities. Rather than replace what already held meaning, we chose to retain select elements from the existing home, weaving them into the new design to create a natural dialogue between past and present. The result is a space that feels evolved yet enduring— layered, and distinctly personal.
The Living Room
Bathed in natural light and nestled amongst the hills of Los Gatos, the living room unfolds in a palette of soft beiges and earthy woods — radiant by day, cocooned in warmth by night. The honeycomb-tiled fireplace forms the heart of the room, its pattern subtly echoing nature’s geometry. Contemporary marble-topped side tables sit alongside vintage-inspired seating — lounge chairs and cushioned couches upholstered in intricate paisley motifs that lend quiet character and depth. An embroidered rug grounds the setting, while a glass chandelier overhead casts a soft, art deco glow — modern yet timeless, much like the home itself.
The Formal Dining
Flowing seamlessly from the living space, the dining area exudes understated grandeur. A solid teak/rosewood dining set anchors the room — complete with hand-carved detailing and delicate gold inlay that recall heirloom craftsmanship. The chandelier above illuminates intimate family suppers and lively gatherings alike, transforming the space with a mood that shifts beautifully from afternoon to evening.
The Entryway / Foyer / Staircase
From the moment one steps inside, design and intention converge. A carved white wooden cabinet doubles as both a shoe console and tabletop — its detailing intricate yet restrained. A curved-edge cushioned bench beside it introduces a touch of softness, blending old-world craftsmanship with modern simplicity. The flooring at the threshold bears a subtle circular motif — a quiet nod to traditional kolam patterns that once welcomed prosperity into Indian homes.
Conclusion
Balanced in tone and texture, every element in this home was chosen to feel intentional— a celebration of light, craft, and memory. The result is a living and dining space that feels both grounded and elevated, minimal yet rich in soul; a reflection of life, thoughtfully lived.
The Casual Dining
The dining room features a striking wooden dining set with intricate carvings and inlay work that celebrate traditional Indian craftsmanship. The set consists of delicate detailing, from floral work to animal carvings, adding artistry to the space.
A crystal chandelier suspended above casts a soft glow, adding a touch of elegance while highlighting the rich wood tones of the furniture. Large surrounding windows allow natural light to fill the room, enhancing the warmth of the wooden floors and the detailed craftsmanship of the chairs. Layered rugs and sculptural wall pieces add depth and texture, creating a dining room that feels both inviting and timeless.
